We all want to make a difference and leave an impact in this world. Sastha Tamil Foundation provides a platform and an avenue to make a large impact for the community, as a community. Contribution is the pathway to fulfillment. STF currently focuses on charity locally in Dallas, TX and overseas in Tamil Nadu, India.

Child-To-Child Harmony

Child-To-Child Harmony is a pen-pal child sponsorship program started in 2008. Through this program STF Children and families from Dallas, sponsor a child's yearly expenses at Udavum Karangal, Chennai. The pen-pal program of exchanging letters quickly developed to Video Chat meetings through Skype as well. This helps the STF children realize the value of gratitude and giving, while creating a special bond with their pen pal across the world. This also provides a sense of belonging for the children of Udavum Karangal. STF, with the help of various STF families, has been supporting 30 children yearly since 2008 till date.Learn More

Basket Brigade

The International Basket Brigade is built on a simple notion: one small act of generosity on the part of one caring person can transform the lives of hundreds.

In support of Anthony Robbins Foundation’s International Basket Brigade, Sastha Tamil Foundation started becoming an independent Basket Brigade location in 2011.This event is hosted by STF every year around Thanksgiving time.

The main purpose is to give back to the local community, especially to those who could use some help to enjoy a proper meal during the holiday season. This in turn also helps to provide an opportunity for our children to witness and realize how blessed we are. Food is collected by our youth volunteers, assembled into baskets and wrapped with love.

We even include Tony Robbins’ book “Notes from a friend” as an additional gift that may help them to transform their world. This way of showing kindness to our peers locally has been executed diligently by STF yearly: 35 baskets in 2011, 50 baskets in 2012, 75 baskets in 2013, and 50+ baskets in 2014. We have had the wonderful privilege of serving single teenage mothers, families recovering from homelessness, Nepali refugees, low-income families, abused women and more. We look forward to serving the DFW community every year. Since we are an independent location of Anthony Robbins’ Basket Brigade, we welcome you to join us.

Yearly Charity Events

Charity as a way of life is a main part of STF’s mission. We believe in creating opportunities for volunteerism to foster the charity minded lifestyle. Through involving our youth, we are also preparing them and shaping them to guide the future generations in this same pathway of contribution. We strive to keep our events with a keen focus on Tamil Language and Culture, as a means to keep in touch with our roots as well.

As a result, STF also provides a platform for the Tamil community to showcase their talents and expertise in their respective fields. Thus, with the purpose of serving the under privileged, we come together as a community, to serve for the greater good.

COVIDhya Dhanam – 10^th annual fundraising event

STF fundraised $83,610 (including last minute contributions). Disbursements were as follows:

$73610 towards Udavum Karangal,
$5000 to North Texas Food Bank and $5000 towards Thirukkural awards.
With the combined efforts of STF, UK-Houston and UK-USA – $214,000 was raised to meet the education expenses of 1900+ children in Udavum Karangal run school.

STF Supports Udavum Karangal

Sastha Tamil Foundation has been conducting charity fundraisers since 2011, mostly benefiting Udavum Karangal. Udavum Karangal (Helping Hands) is a registered, non-governmental, non-religious and non-profit social service organization, established in 1983, with the sole objective of serving people in need. Udavum Karangal provides shelter, food, medical services, education and personal care to 2000+ people. They include: abandoned children, mentally retarded children, spastic (mere vegetable like) children, severe psychiatric patients, abandoned elderly/dying destitute, HIV/AIDS/Cancer patients & more. STF Supports Shakthi Kalai Kuzhu

In 2014, STF not only supported Udavum Karangal, but also supported Shakthi Kalai Kuzhu. Shakthi Kalai Kuzhu is an organization that helps empower poor Dalit (untouchable) woman, who are 10th drop out girls. They are trained in Parai attam, a Tamil folk art. They are also given education in social analysis, micro-economic sustainability, academics, personal empowerment, and community leadership. STF has supported Shakthi Kalai Kuzhu’s efforts to finish constructing a new classroom building by donating $21,000 in 2014, in order to expand their education efforts to create a sustainable future for the Dalit women.
