Our initial goal was to get children to speak in Tamil to their parents and grandparents and to read basic signs in Tamil. To meet the specific needs of children growing up in the U.S., and to provide quality Tamil Language education to our younger generation, we tailored our own curriculum. Hence, we focused on reading, writing, speaking, and singing in Tamil. We also focus on Iyal, Isai, Nadagam (Literature, Music, & Drama). We conduct presentations every six weeks for children to practice their public speaking skills. We have yearly Annual Day performances that encourage children to speak in Tamil, and learn our Tamil culture through plays.
After we witnessed an exponential growth and demand for learning Tamil, we have started several new projects and broadened our goals. Our new vision is to empower the next generation to take Tamil to future generations.
We now have our very own Tamil library with almost 2000 Tamil books, and we encourage reading habits for our children, through the reading club. We conduct Thirukurral competitions to encourage our children to learn life lessons through our rich Tamil literature. We focus on Thirukkural, Athichudi and also conduct competitions for both children and adults in tamil speech and essay writing(katturai).
